So what’s your EDC? I get asked that often and I thought I’d take a couple of minutes to explain what I carry, why I carry it and give you more to think about. I’m sure that we all know by now, that violence happens with little warning and it can happen anywhere. In recent events it’s happened at schools, at Church, at Synagogue, at work, at the movies, at the park… the list is endless. If you care about yourself and those around you, you probably carry at least something for personal protection. Here’s my list:
-Gun (several different ones, depending on the day)
-Spare magazine (depending on the gun)
-Knife (pocket knife with a sturdy blade)
-Blade (NOT a pocket knife, but a fixed blade)
-Flashlight (I actually carry two of these)
-IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit) Mine has a tourniquet, clotting cloth, a rescue cutter (for clothing/seatbelts, etc) and a backup flashlight.
I carry an IFAK because if something goes wrong, I want to give myself the best chance of surviving, and should others need medical help, I’m there for them. (most people that died in the Las Vegas shooting bled to death)
Hey Bob, that seems like a LOT of stuff…yup, it kind of is but I’ve worked hard to find ways to carry it with minimal disruption to work, play, driving, whatever. All of my gear weighs in at about 6-7lbs. My gun and holster alone weigh 3lb. So how does a medium size person like me hide all of that gear? It requires some experimentation and a REALLY good belt. Check out the pictures below and you’ll get a good idea of how it all works.
